NICOLE KRANZ

"You cannot be free without discipline"

Nicole Kranz, born into a family with deep migratory roots, is Brazilian by birth but was raised in Geneva—a city she left at 17. An indefatigable traveler, she has lived in Rio de Janeiro, New York, Paris, and now Lisbon.

Independent, self-taught, and multilingual, she has pursued a varied career in journalism, communications, and coaching. Yet it is in writing that she has found her true path—a journey that feels as inevitable as it is emblematic of her rebirth.

Marked by a raw and visual style, Nicole Kranz’s novels draw directly from her own life and the stories of those she has encountered along the way.

She chooses the first-person perspective to immerse herself in the lives of her characters, exploring their destinies and highlighting life’s defining encounters—family, friends, fleeting or enduring—that shape each person’s identity and journey.

From a young age, Nicole faced periods of abuse, excess, and vulnerability—experiences that would inspire her first two novels: This is Bullshit, Not a Love Story and In My Mother’s Skin. These stories, drawn from her challenges, reveal how fragility and resilience intertwine, illustrating our capacity for growth and self-reinvention.

Learning to truly listen to life has become her most profound journey. Without regret, she has embraced both life’s challenges and moments of fulfillment with equal intensity.

Her first two novels – This is Bullshit, Not a Love Story and In My Mother’s Skin – draw on experiences from her own life. The first portrays in graphic detail the ordeal of a woman, Chloe, trapped in a toxic relationship. The second reveals another decisive period in Nicole’s life. Using a unique, highly effective format, she explores the complexity of mother-daughter relations and shows how forgiveness can revive maternal love. Another novel, now underway, will complete the trilogy by narrating Chloe’s other closely related challenges.

With her novel Katoï, she tackles the subject of gender transition at a later age. This poignant story explores how a search for Self can enter a whole new dimension. Her latest novel is Time for a Second Life, which narrates the life of Salvatore, a young Italian immigrant in Paris. This family saga immerses the reader in the 80s, a legendary epoch, and along the way, lends hope to those in quest of a second chance in life.
