in my
mother's skin

"Mom, I don't miss you, because I've always missed you." This deep void, this indelible absence, has always inhabited Chloé. But it is her mother’s cruel yet touching words that gradually reveal their fragile relationship. The family's stifling unspoken tensions further widen the emotional gap between mother and daughter. Mrs. Berkovitch, first and foremost a wife, has yielded to her husband’s career-driven demands, focusing solely on him. The story poignantly follows two women from different generations, walking together towards the inevitable, where modesty fades, giving way to forgiveness.

Inspiration behind the novel

In this second novel, I give voice to Mrs. Berkovitch, Chloé’s mother. It’s an intimate story exploring the fragile bond between mother and daughter. Through her own words, she reveals her clumsiness, neglect, and family secrets. It’s only when illness confines her that she manages to ask Chloé for forgiveness, allowing her daughter to be by her side until her last breath. Two perspectives—one of a wife and mother, the other of a daughter after her death—emerge, showing that while neither holds the full truth, their bond remains unbreakable. This is the prequel to my first novel, This is Bullshit, Not a Love Story.
